Sun, Aug 16 2009 - Chester Lake - Slower Pace (View Original Event Details)
|
It turned out to be a wonderful day despite the weather that couldn't decide on rain or sun.
The trail to Chester Lake is clear and well-travelled. We had been told at the PL Visitor Center that a bear had been digging around the lake, and sure enough, we saw plenty of evidence of it: some little animals had their burrows ripped open just beside the lake. Fortunately, there were no sightings of an actual bear.
By this time, the rain had started so we ducked under some trees to eat our lunch - and then the sun came out. So we made our way up to the Elephant Rocks (I got lucky on finding the right trail), started clambering and the rain started again.
Of course, on the way back to the cars, the sun came out once again. But it was all lots of fun, even when we tried to entertain another hiker with our Monty Python routine (he wasn't having any of it.)
Thanks to a great group for coming out despite the weather forecast and having a wonderful time through it all. See you on the trails again soon!
