1) We're sorry, this was much more ride than we expected (based on the 'bible'), we shouldn't have called it a beginner ride.
2) Doug Eastcott - I want my money back !! ;)
3) Welcome to new member Sooeun - HONEST this was harder and less fun than we expected, please come back!
4) RnR - good call, you would've hated it. (I did)
This was quite the adventure. The description in the book suggested it was a ride up a road, there'd be bunnies jumping around, we'd have time to smell the roses, yada yada. This was a work out. And after it was all over, at the Black Diamond Bar, we all ordered steak to get back at those *^%*&^% cows that messed up the trail so badly. There were mires and bogs made much worse by herds of cows leaving their marks (hooves & sh*t mostly) that were unrideable. We were on and off those bikes so often (often unwillingly). There were more endos this trip than my previous season's worth of rides combined. Tim, Rob and someone else made a contest out of it.
So after barely making it to the canyon (~9.5km and worth it), 1/2 the group turned around and 7 masochists just had to make the rest of it. Final stats: 28.5km, 4h14 moving, 3h15 stopped, overall average 3.8 kmh, moving average 6.7 kmh, about 700m cumulative climbing, and 13 bruised egos.
THANKS to all for your great attitudes and great company in the face of a very frustrating event.
