Week 7
Despite being hit by the first big storm of the season this weekend, all but 2 managed to make it over to Stephen’s Junior High School for our weekly dodge ball tournament. Once again there were plenty of new faces in attendance as 42 eager participants competed for their chance to be honoured on the infamous Dodge Ball Wall of Fame. As usual the participants, a nice mix of veterans and rookies, were randomly divided into 4 teams and given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began as the 20 game round robin got underway.
Each team played 10 times before being seeded for the playoff rounds. All four teams were fairly evenly matched with plenty of excitement and drama to go around! Snow Balls and Ninja Balls finished the round robin with identical 7-3 records. Snow Balls was eventually awarded 1st place honours as a result of their winning record against the Ninjas. Not far behind was A Bit Dodgy at 4-6 followed by the lowly Tickle My Balls who managed just 2 wins in their 10 games.
In the semi-finals, the underdog Tickle My Balls surprised an overconfident and heavily favoured Snow Ball team eliminating them in 2 straight games to advance to the Gold medal round. Meanwhile in other action the battle between 2nd and 3rd was also decided in 2 straight games as the Ninjas lived up to their billing, defeating the 3rd place A Bit Dodgy, with ease.
In the medal round, the Snow Balls managed to redeem themselves somewhat with a quick and decisive 2 game series sweep of A Bit Dodgy to salvage a bronze. Finally, in gold medal action, luck ran out for the Cinderella story hopefuls as more focused and powerful Ninja Ball team swept Tickle My Balls in 2 straight games to win the tournament. Congratulations Ninja Balls on your gold medal performance tonight!!
