Write Up:
We left Calgary Saturday morning with a little trepidation as to what kind of weather this day would hold. We drove in under cloudy skies and once at the trailhead proceeded to put on every piece of warm clothing at our disposal. The sky was cloudy but thankfully there was no wind. Within the first half hour most people warmed up enough to take off a layer. The sky cleared out as the day progressed and the temperatures were pleasant in the afternoon. We decided we would forego the O'Brien Lake option as we would have ended up hiking in the shade for extended periods. Larch viewing can still be quite satisfying on Thanksgiving weekend in some years but with recent winds and very cold overnight temperatures a lot of needles had already fallen. It was still a pretty impressive display. After the hike a few of us went for a soak at the hotsprings in Banff followed by dinner at the Elk and Oarseman Pub with Ben's group. The rest of our group did a pub stop at the Iron Goat in Canmore which was likely an awesome choice given the great winter scenery on this day. A great day in the mountains with a great group! -Marcel
