A great group of COC’ers made for a really enjoyable evening of indoor soccer at the Calgary Soccer Centre tonight! Once again it was another hard fought battle between the Mighty Blue & Gold for COC soccer supremacy! Blue roared out of the gate jumping to an early 3-1 lead but Gold didn’t panic adding a second goal to pull within one before the first intermission. The second frame saw some good end to end action with great chances by both squads. When the buzzer finally sounded to signal the end of the 2nd frame, Blue had earned a well deserved 6-4 lead. The flood gates opened in the 3rd and final frame however as the two teams combined for a total of 13 goals in an extended 50 minute period! Gold fell behind by as much as 4 goals but never gave up and battled back to pull within one in the final 2 minutes. Unfortunately for Gold, that was as close as they would get losing a real heartbreaker by a score of 12-11. Afterwards many of us stopped in at a very busy soccer centre pub for some great conversation and munchies before heading home. As usual a great time was had by all! Congratulations Blue on your well deserved victory.
Tonight's "Player of the Game" award was presented immediately following the game to Brad Mclaughlin, who joined the club almost 2 years ago and has been a regular fixture at various COC sporting events including dodge ball, volleyball, kick ball and soccer ever since. Although Brad is not known for his finesse or ability to exhibit restraint in non-contact sports, he is a very likable guy who is a lot of fun to have around. He plays hard and always gives 110% on the field. He has a great personality, is a real hit with the ladies, and I always enjoy his enthusiasm and sense of humour. It has been a real pleasure getting to know him through the many COC events we have shared together and I look forward to many more. Congratulations on your award Brad, you deserve it!
