Wow, for a day that started out a little frustrating, it ended up *really* well.
First the weather and roads that turned out to be limited to within 20km of Calgary. Once out on the highways, they were perfect.
A little too perfect was the second factor. The road up to Peter Lougheed was worryingly dry. There was snow in PLPP but it had shrunk from the last couple weekends. The area right around Boulton parking lot was icy and our fist 1/3 of the trip was up Packer's Trail. It was snowmobile packed but not track set so it was tough sleddin' for the first few km. Once we got to Pocaterra the ground covering began to resemble snow and gliding and kicking became options again. The lower trails we hoped to do were just too icy so some trip replanning was required.
Third it was a big group with a lot of new faces and no cell coverage, so we didn't find one of the meet at event people, we're very sorry. I think in the future we will strongly discourage Meet@Event unless it is really necessary and full descriptions of person and vehicle and places are well explained.
Forth we thought we lost someone on leaving, but just didn't know how cavernous Drew's van was and found the missing person safely inside.
However, once some good skiing was found, sun was exposed, some hills were descended and confidences regained the day took a turn for the GREAT and everyone seemed to have fun.
We met up with another COC group at Woody's to chat and recap the day. THANK YOU to all, you were a REALLY fun (and understanding) group and we hope to see you ALL next weekend at Mt. Shark! (stay tuned).
