Week 9
After a month long break over the Christmas season, COC dodge ball returned to Stephen’s Junior High School tonight as 39 eager participants competed for their chance to be honoured on the infamous Dodge Ball Wall of Fame. As usual the participants, a nice mix of veterans and rookies, were randomly divided into 4 teams and given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began as the 20 game round robin got underway.
Each team played 10 times before being seeded for the playoff rounds. There was no shortage of excitement on the court as the four teams jockeyed for position throughout the round robin. Big Horn Sheep was the strongest of the bunch finishing with an impressive 8-2 record while the Screamers weren’t far behind at 6-4. Duane’s Blue Balls and Team Good Looking finished with identical 3-7 records and required an additional tie breaker game to award 3rd place to T.G.L.
In the semi-finals, the heavily favoured Big Horn Sheep did not disappoint, sweeping Duane’s Blue Balls in 2 straight games to advance to the Gold medal round. Meanwhile in other action, the battle between 2nd and 3rd took the full 3 game series to decide as Team Good Looking upset the 2nd place Screamers 2-1 to earn a shot at the gold.
In the medal round, Duane’s Blues Balls continued to struggle, losing yet another series in 2 straight games, this time to a more determined Screamers team. Finally, in gold medal action, Big Horn Sheep faltered in game 2 but bounced back to dispose of those pesky underdogs T.G.L in game 3 of the series. A great effort by Team Good Looking but unfortunately they fell just one game short of upsetting the tournament favourite. Congratulations Big Horn Sheep on your gold medal performance tonight!!
