Write Up:Maybe this should have been called the snooze hike, as we seemed to venture from one meadow to the next, taking power naps along the way, and just enjoying basking in the sun, +15ºC weather, and some green grass poking through. A nice way to celebrate the first day of spring. The highlight was definitely the first half of the trip. With the ground still frozen we encountered no mud on that stretch, and mostly snow-free conditions allowed us to head up Death's Head where one has views over to Mesa (Square) Butte and Calgary towards the north/northeast, and all the way to Nihahi Ridge, Banded Peak, Threepoint Mountain and Bluerock Mountain towards the west/southwest. The Gorge Creek Trail - a muddy gravel road - provided us with a 5km stretch that kept going on an on and on, but the 9999 Trail got us back into the woods. Back at Mesa Butte Equestrian area it was back to more laziness, as most partook just sitting on the fence and catching more sun. This is a great early season rambler, but if I were to do it again, I'd add a few km, cut out Gorge Creek Trail, and extend the loop to include the North Ware Creek Trail and full 9999 Trail.
