Week 22
Another capacity crowd filled St Stephen’s Junior High School Gymnasium on Tuesday to compete in round 22 of the 2009-2010 dodge ball season! 40 eager participants arrived with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As usual, the participants, a nice mix of veterans and rookies, were randomly divided into 4 teams and given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin games.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The games were filled with plenty of excitement as each team battled hard to earn first place honours. At the conclusion of game 20, 1 Hit Wonders found themselves on top with a respectable 6-1-3 record. The Ninjas and Rider Pride followed close behind with 5-4-1 and 4-5-1 records respectively. Last but not least, it was the Purple Cobras finishing at 2-7-1.
In the semi-finals, 1 Hit Wonders wasted little time disposing of the last place Purple Cobras defeating them in 2 straight games to advance to the Gold medal round while the Ninjas forced a 3rd a deciding game against a tough Rider Pride squad but came up short, losing the series 2-1.
In the medal round, the Ninjas swept the Cobras to earn the bronze while 1 Hit Wonders proved to be just that, as they were swiftly eliminated by a determined Rider Pride squad in 2 straight games. Congratulations Rider Pride on your gold medal performance tonight!!
Franco’s back to back gold medal wins coupled with Gerardo’s back to back last place finishes, has suddenly opened up a comfortable 8 point lead for last year’s overall points champion. With just 4 events remaining will there be enough time for Gerardo to mount a comeback or will Franco remain the COC’s Dodge Ball Wonder Boy for a second consecutive season? Stay tuned, the rivalry continues next week!
