As usual another great group of enthusiastic COC’ers arrived at St Stephen’s Junior High School Gymnasium on Tuesday with big dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup!! With just 2 weeks remaining, you could feel the tension in the air, especially amongst those who have yet to have their names added to the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame this season!
COC Dodge Ball welcomed its 200th participant of the season tonight with the addition of newcomer Rob Mcgaughey who decided it was time to come out and give it a try. By comparison, only 179 members took part in last year's 31 week season!
As usual, the participants were randomly divided into 4 teams and given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin games.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The competition was fierce as teams jockeyed for position throughout the 20 game round robin. Sticky Fingers finished atop the standings with a 6-4 record followed closely by the Goonies at 5-4-1 and the Ball Bearings at 5-5. Not too far behind the pack was the 3-6-1 Douche Balls.
In the semi-finals, the #1 ranked Sticky Fingers were given a scare after dropping game 1 to the lowly Douche Balls but eventually found their stride and came back to win the series 2-1. In other action, the Goonies suffered the same fate as the Douche Balls, winning their series opener only to drop the next 2 games against a more determined Ball Bearings squad.
In the medal round, it was all about the underdogs as the 4th place Douche Balls upset the 2nd place Goonies for the bronze while the 3rd place Ball Bearings surprised the #1 ranked Sticky Fingers with a 2-1 series win to claim the GOLD! Congratulations Ball Bearings on your hard fought victory tonight!
