Sun, May 16 2010 - Mount Yamnuska (View Original Event Details)
|
At long last, after passing by Mount Yamnuska many times over to Kananaskis and Banff, I can finally say to the folks that I've gone up there. So often talked about, I can see why this is the case after getting to enjoy the views and many features one gets in this trip that is so close to Calgary. After canceling the event a few weeks ago due to conditions, it was nice to see such warm weather at long last. The occasional breeze was certainly welcome. There were numerous breaks to catch the views but we were able to maintain a pretty good pace when moving. The only section of concern in this trip was the short screen descent after the cable, which was covered with some snow. Icers/Microspikes came in handy here.
By far, the best part of the trip is the scree run. So much so that some coordinator who shall remain nameless slipped and fell and got a cut on their hand.
There were a number of interesting moments for sure in this trip:
- At the very start of trip, Jordy provided just a little TMI (too much information) with a warning about his underwear.
- Chau exposed TMS (too much skin) by taking off the shirt (it was pretty warm). Luckily it didn't go any further than that. He also featured those red gaiters which seem pretty hard to find in stores these days.
- Jeff really did his best to scare us about the cable, but not a single soul in the group bit the bait!
- Wayne had a brilliant idea of dropping his business card into the summit register canister. I'm sure that the business will be rolling in!
Thanks to Stacey for helping me out with the carpool. Thanks to all for such a fun and interesting day. Hope to see you all soon!
