It was certainly an interesting day to head out to Helen Lake and Cirque Peak. Initially cloudy, we ascended our way to clearer skies and for a while it looked very promising up on Cirque Peak.
After taking a half hour lunch break at the frozen Helen Lake, we went on the ascent with a little added difficulty, with a little postholing happening on the approach to the ridge and a little extra scrambling required to get to the ridgetop due to snow covering parts of the switchback. After getting to the top though the clouds had covered most of the surroundings and it was snowing. It certainly would have been disappointing if we didn't stay much longer, as the skies started clearing up for the most part for the nice views that Cirque Peak promises. To catch some photos was a bit of a challenge though with the fast moving clouds. We ended up staying at the summit for about an hour, though someone could not get his summit sleep in!
After the trip, we all stopped at Peyto's Cafe in Lake Louise for dinner and a cold one. It was nice to get back to Calgary with plenty of daylight!
