There are a few hikes in the Rockies that have a lasting impression on you. The Iceline is one of them. It has now become part of an annual ritual to hike on this amazing trail that offers so much variety. When you step your foot on the trail, be ready to be dazzled between the waterfalls, the glacial moraine, the Vice President mountain range, the lakes, the meadows and the forest etc... Takkakaw is a Stoney Indian word that means "magnificent" and it certainly deserves its name. On the itinerary for this event was Celeste Lake that took our breath away given its stunning colour. The photos do not do any justice to the Iceline Trail but certainly gives you a taste for it. Eight of us met with Karl (camping in the area) at the meeting point yesterday in Yoho around 10h30. While the drive is lengthy it is totally worth it given how rewarding the hike is. The entire group appeared to enjoy the day and the scenery. There were quite a few jokes spread around with the un"bear"able "bear" feet story told by Marcel. The joke/story telling gets better every year ! We took multiple breaks throughout the day to take all this beauty in and take photos. The weather was perfect as the glacial moraine cooled us off while hiking at the highest point. The mist of the waterfalls provided afterwards some perfect "refreshment" to beat the heat. Days like this make you realize how incredibly fortunate we are to live so close to the Rockies. Thank you for joining me on this hike and for being such great company. Some stopped at the hostel at Lake Louise for dinner while the rest of us made it back to Calgary around 8 pm. As a clarification point, the shorter route that we took yesterday via Celeste Lake is actually a 17 km loop not a 14 km loop as mentioned on several COC hike descriptions. Look forward to many other great outings in the summer. Until then, stay healthy, be happy and keep smiling.
