Season 3 Week 02
Tonight we kicked off Thanksgiving weekend with round 2 of the COC dodge ball season as a nice sized crowd of 33 gathered at Vincent Massey Junior High School for some good old fashioned fun! The eager participants arrived with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As usual, the group was randomly divided into 4 teams and each given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin games.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The games were filled with plenty of excitement and great plays as teams jockeyed for position. When the dust settled all 4 teams were separated by just 2 wins making this one of the closest tournaments in COC dodge ball history. Green Sportek and the Blues Brothers lead the way with respectable 6-4 records but Green Sportek received 1st place honours due to their wining record against the Blues Brothers. Following closely behind were Red Balls of Fire and Gold Diggers each achieving identical 4-6 records with 3rd place going to Red Balls of Fire.
In the semi-finals it was all about the underdogs as 4th place Gold Diggers upset the #1 ranked Green Sportek in 3 games to advance to the gold medal round while 3rd place Red Balls of Fire defeated the 2nd place Blue Brothers 2-1 to earn a shot at the championship.
In the medal round, the heartbreak of losing to the last place team in round one proved to be more than Green Sportek could handle as they were promptly swept by the Blues Brothers in the consolation series, exiting the tournament without a medal after such a promising round robin performance. Finally, the Red Balls of Fire who went undefeated against the Gold Diggers during the round robin continued their dominance over them sweeping the series 2-0 to capture the Gold!! Congratulations Red Balls of Fire on your Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
