Season 3 Week 07
Round 7 of this season’s COC dodge ball was held tonight at Vincent Massey Junior High School. A standing room only crowd of 41 eager participants arrived with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, the group was randomly divided into 4 teams and each given the task of coming up with a name for themselves. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 22 round robin games.
Each team played 11 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Once again the tournament witnessed a very tight race as 3 of the 4 teams remained deadlocked at the end of round robin play. The Gold Brickers, the only team not involved in the 3 way tie, finished 1st with an impressive 7-4 record. After several minutes on the phone with COC Dodge Ball Headquarters in Toronto, the official rankings of the 3 remaining teams who shared identical 5-6 records were announced. Based on head to head records and the result of an additional tie breaker game, 2nd place was awarded to Blue Is The Hardest One, 3rd went to RedRum and Santa’s Helpers dropped to 4th.
In the semi-finals, the heavily favoured Gold Brickers were upset 2-1 by a feisty Santa’s Helpers team while RedRum did little to stand in the way of a more determined Blue Is The Hardest One squad losing in 2 straight games.
In the medal round, an unhappy Gold Brickers squad took out their semi-final loss frustrations on RedRum sweeping the series 2-0 to salvage a bronze medal. In other action, Santa’s Helpers completed their Cinderella story comeback with a 2-0 series victory over Blue Is The Hardest One to become the first last place team to win a championship this season! Congratulations Santa’s Helpers on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
