We started the day by stopping at the Peter Lougheed Visitor Centre where the woman behind the counter tried to talk us out of snowshoeing Rummel Lake due to avalanche danger (it was low below treeline and moderate at alpine and treeline). Apparently there has been a death on this trail due to an avalanche.

We spoke to her for about 1/2 hour and then decided that as long as we were able to find the yellow trail markers which take you away from the avalanche danger, we would be fine to continue on.

As Rummel is not a groomed trail and there was fresh snow, finding the route was definitely not easy. We followed tracks of a cross country skier until it didn't make sense to continue to do so. With the help of my GPS (with the Rummel Lake - Winter track downloaded on it) and yellow trail markers that finally appeared about 1/2 the way there, we did finally manage to find the lake. On the way down a couple of us tried to note landmarks that would help us find our way in the future, but did not find any.

It was a beautiful winter wonderland out there. The trees were snow covered and it was incredibly peaceful. A very nice grade on the trail and wonderful people made the day very enjoyable. Thank you to everyone for joining me and for your patience.
