Season 3 Week 19
Spring is in the air and that means COC dodge ball has once again returned to St Stephen Junior High School where 36 enthusiastic participants arrived with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had checked in, team members gathered together to introduce themselves and come up with a team name for the tournament. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The games were filled with plenty of excitement and great plays as teams jockeyed for position throughout. When the dust settled, it was the Walmart Greeters finishing in first with a respectable 7-3-0 record followed closely by Shower This at 5-4-1 while Red Delicious and Kiss My Irish Balls finished neck and neck with 3-5-2 and 3-6-1 records respectively.
In the semi-finals, Red Delicious jumped out to an early 1-0 series lead only to self destruct in the final 2 games losing the series to a more determined Shower This squad. Meanwhile in other action, last place Kiss My Irish Balls stunned the #1 ranked Walmart Greeters with an unexpected series sweep to advance to the gold.
In the medal round, Red Delicious put up yet another good fight pushing their series to the limit only to find themselves once again on the outside looking in after a heartbreaking game 3 bronze medal loss. Finally, in the championship series, Kiss My Irish Balls proved to be no match for a rejuvenated Shower This squad as they were swept in 2 straight games and had to settle for silver. Congratulations Shower This on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
