Season 3 Week 22
A nice mix of regulars and newcomers made their way to Stephen Junior High School this evening with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had checked in, participants divided up into their respective teams, introduced themselves and came up with a team name for the tournament. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. A strong Don Ready’s team was awarded first place by a whisker over an underrated Blue Devils squad as the teams finished neck and neck with 6-2-2 and 5-3-2 records respectively. It was just as close for the final 2 teams as Jurassic Park (3-5-2) edged out a pesky Over/Under squad (3-6-1) for 3rd place.
In the semi-finals, 4th place Over/Under came oh so close to pulling off a huge upset over the tournament favourite but with just seconds remaining the Don Ready’s somehow orchestrated a massive comeback to steal the game and the series from a very disappointed Over/Under squad. Meanwhile in other action, the 2nd place Blue Devils wasted little time advancing to the gold medal round after a quick series sweep over the underachieving Jurassic Park squad.
In the medal round, both series went down to the wire and required an exciting game 3 tie breaker to determine the winners. Jurassic Park bounced back nicely from their semi-final loss to defeat Over/Under for bronze while Don Ready’s overcame a great effort by the Blue Devils to capture the gold! Congratulations Don Ready’s on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
