A sold out crowd of 44 enthusiastic COC’ers crammed into St Stephen Junior High School’s gymnasium tonight each arriving with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had checked in, team members gathered together to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Big Bad Bouncing Bulging Blue Balls lead the way with an impressive 8-2 round robin record followed closely by Lettuce G at 6-4. Juke Box Ballz and Win Lose or Booze finished with identical 3-7 records but 3rd place was awarded to Juke Box Ballz based on their winning record against Win Lose or Booze.
In the semi-finals, Win Lose or Booze pulled off a stunning upset over tournament favourite Big Bad Bouncing Bulging Blue Balls sweeping them from gold medal contention with 2 straight victories! In other action, the underdog Juke Box Ballz were not as fortunate in their attempt to pull off an upset as they lost back to back games to a tough Lettuce G squad resulting in even more bad news as they now had to face the #1 ranked Big Bad Bouncing Bulging Blue Balls for bronze.
In the medal round, Juke Box Ballz fell victim to yet another series sweep as the Big Bad Bouncing Bulging Blue Balls went on to easily capture the bronze while a heartbreaking game 3 loss versus Lettuce G snuffed out what would have been a miraculous Cinderella story playoff run by Win Lose or Booze. Hats off to Win Lose or Booze for their outstanding effort and congratulations to Lettuce G on your hard fought Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
