Season 3 Finale - Week 32
Well what can I say other than tonight was an absolute blast! Over 50 COC’ers (including several spectators) arrived at Stephen Junior High School one last time this year to share in a fun filled evening of sport, food and fellowship. We kicked things off with a brief awards ceremony to honour several members for their various accomplishments this season. To view pictures of the awards click on the attached photo album. The following is a list of tonight’s recipients :
IRON MAN AWARD Presented to: Allyson Molsberry, Chris Scutchings and Ian Hofer in recognition of their perfect attendance record. (present at all 32 events this season). Each of them received 2 free admit one vouchers valid for next season.
PINLESS AWARD Presented to Allyson Molsberry in recognition of her season long 32 week pinless streak! Allyson never once played on a team that did not win a medal this season (gold, silver or bronze).
PINMANSHIP AWARD Presented to Yannick Gentes in recognition of his unfortunate ability to collect the most pins in a single season (12). A participant is awarded a pin each time their team finishes out of the medals (4th place).
COC PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR Presented to Gerardo Marquez in recognition of the spectacular event photos he takes each week. Photos from a wide variety of my past events have been provided by Gerardo and his contributions are greatly appreciated by many.
BEST LOOKING DODGE BALLER Presented to Darwin Babb in recognition of his overwhelming popularity with the ladies.
MOST DEDICATED & ENTHUSIASTIC Presented to Jenny (Hua Zong) in recognition of her genuine love and enthusiasm for the game. Jenny joined the COC last fall and quickly became a regular at this event, in fact she enjoyed it so much she regularly made special arrangements to get off work so she could attend. Unfortunately her award was unavailable for tonight’s ceremony but rest assured it will be presented to her at a later date. Congratulations on a great season Jenny!
MVP SEASON 3 Presented to Ian Hofer in recognition of his outstanding play and high level of sportsmanship throughout the season. Ian finished first in the overall Medal Standings amassing a single season record 140pts including an unprecedented 16 gold medals!
MVP SEASON 1 & 2 Presented to Franco Glavina in retro-recognition of his 1st place overall finish in the first two COC dodge ball seasons (2008-09 & 2009-10).
DOOR PRIZE Presented to 7 randomly drawn participants of tonight’s event. The following individuals received a DVD copy of the hilarious movie “Dodge Ball” to help get them through the summer: Chris Strutzenberger, Ben Susser, Gerardo Marquez, Julien Camanini, Karen Joorisity, Beth Leahy and Kim Hume. Congratulations guys!
At the conclusion of the opening ceremonies, attendees quickly gathered into their respective teams, introduced themselves and came up with a team name for the tournament. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Iron Men lead the way with a solid 7-3 performance while Catch It With Your Face and Aim For Chris followed close behind with 5-4-1 and 5-5-0 records respectively. Last but not least was Greedy Green Giants who posted a disappointing 2-7-1 result.
In the semi-finals, Aim For Chris rebounded nicely after dropping game 1 of their series to defeat Catch It With Your Face 2-1 and advance to the gold. In other action, Iron Men quickly disposed of the Greedy Green Giants in 2 straight games to earn a shot at the DB Cup!
In the medal round, both series required a tie breaker to determine the winner. The Greedy Green Giants finally managed a playoff victory in their 4th attempt after being swept in the semi-finals but were unable to build on that momentum dropping game 3 of the bronze to a more determined Catch It With Your Face squad. The final game of the night went to the Iron Men who out muscled a disappointed Aim For Chris team to capture the final gold medal of the season! Congratulations Iron Men on your well deserved Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
After the tournament EVERYONE made their way to BP’s where we took over the entire lounge to celebrate another fantastically fun season of COC Dodge Ball! Pizza and pop were provided to everyone along with a delicious cake decorated with all 31 winning team photos from throughout the season! It was an absolutely AMAZING night!
Thanks to each and every one of you for making this the best season finale yet! I really appreciated the thoughtful card, gift cards and t-shirt as well. I will definitely put those gift cards to good use – thanks again to all who contributed to the surprise and especially to Julie Baldwin for her heartfelt presentation.
