Season4 Week 3

Tonight we returned for our 2nd of back to back Thursday’s at Knox United Church in downtown Calgary. 37 enthusiastic COC’ers arrived with dreams of hoisting the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and having their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had checked in, participants divided up into their respective teams, introduced themselves and came up with a team name for the tournament. After a few minutes of team bonding, the names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.

Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The Green Bay Smackers and Asian Invasion found themselves neck and neck throughout the tournament as they battled hard for first place honours. The Smackers eventually emerged as the #1 ranked squad with an impressive 8-2 record while the Invasion followed right behind at 7-3. Yolks on You finished 3rd at 4-6 while the lowly Blue Crush managed just a single victory in 10 tries to place fourth.

In the semi-finals, the Green Bay Smackers made short work of Blue Crush sweeping them 2-0 to advance to the gold while Yolks On You upset Asian Invasion 2-1.

In the medal round, both series ended with sweeps as Asian Invasion bounced back from their heartbreaking semi-final series loss to salvage a bronze while the Green Bay Smackers completed their perfect 4-0 playoff run to capture the gold! Congratulations Smackers on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
