Sat, Nov 19 2005 - Friends of Kananaskis Country - 1st Annual Open House (View Original Event Details)
|
What a fun day! For all of you who didn't attend - - stay tuned and plan to attend next year's 2nd Annual Open House.
Our day began with an interesting presentation of wildlife tracking. That one is definitely worth a repeat. Next was a guided hike (supposed to be snowshoe except there wasn't enough snow) - also interesting and also worth a repeat. Both guides were knowledgeable about the history of the area. Some others in our group attended the presentation on the history of Kananaskis and said they enjoyed it.
The "Harmony Hounds" entertained in the sunroom throughout the day. These people are great!
Lastly, and definitely in keeping with the fun of the day, was a theatre presentation "Owl Wars" - heavy with audience participation and a forum for several C.O.C. participants to demonstrate their drama and entertainment skills. And which reminded me once again that drama has not ever been one of my claims to fame.
Much to my surprise, my name was drawn for the gift basket (door prize). A special surprise for me because I never win anything. Included were several excellent books and maps will definitely be useful on future C.O.C. outings, along with a variety of chocolates and stuffed animals that were immediately dispersed to interested individuals.
Oh yah - also included was a CD of songs prepared by various interpretive program entertainers. So . . . great news! Anyone carpooling with me from now on will be able to listen to and practice all these great songs as we travel to and from COC events - - and even better, WE could become the FOUNDERS of the NEW C.O.C. Campfire Choir! ;-)(that said - I think my carpool buddies on the way home would tell you to be very afraid.) Marty - - perhaps there are some new songs for you to add to your "Floozie carpool repetoire" (for more information on Floozie, see forum discussion: "Great Beater Car - $100 for COC Member" http://coc.rezgeek.com/viewtopic.php?t=438 (Thanks Wendy for teaching me how to write up these links.)
Today was quite different from our usual C.O.C. gatherings, in that our group just blended in with the larger group of Friends of Kananaskis Country. For participants new to the C.O.C. today - this is not a representation of our usual events and outings - typically we stay closer together as a group which allows greater opportunity for interaction between members. Still, it was great to see you all and meet new C.O.C. members, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
