Season 4 Week 30
Our final Tuesday of the season saw another great group of enthusiastic COC’ers gather together at St Stephen Junior High School to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had checked in, we kicked off the evening with a short presentation in recognition of Allyson’s 100th and Chris’s 300th event with the club. Allyson received a custom designed ball cap to mark the occasion while Chris was presented with a framed 8x10 collage featuring various highlights of his history with the COC . At the conclusion of the presentation it was game on, as participants gathered together with their teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Ballging Blue Balls lead the way with a 7-3 record followed closely by One Leaf Clover at 6-4. Call of Duty managed 4 victories to grab 3rd spot while Bananas in Pajamas came in 4th with a 3-7 result.
In the semi-finals, One Leaf Clover made short work of Call of Duty, eliminating them from gold medal contention in 2 straight games while the #1 ranked Ballging Blue Balls needed sudden death in the tie breaker match to finally rid themselves of a pesky Bananas in Pajamas squad.
In the medal round, Call of Duty put up a good fight for bronze but couldn’t hold off a more determined Bananas in Pajamas team. Meanwhile in other action, tournament favourite Ballging Blue Balls lived up to their billing with a series sweep over One Leaf Clover to capture the gold! Congratulations Ballging Blue Balls on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
After the tournament many of us headed over to BP’s for some great conversation, munchies and refreshments. Thanks to all who joined me tonight, it was great fun!
