Sun, Aug 26 2012 - McPhail Creek Bike / Hike to Weary Creek Gap (View Original Event Details)
|
Thanks to the 3 adventerous riders who joined me in this backcountry adventure. The ride was never all that steep, and there was more singletrack than we expected. The riding ended in an old, somewhat marshy meadow where the trail disappeard. John found the hiking trail after we wandered around a bit.
The hike up the headwall is steep, but a lot easier going up than what you would think seeing the headwall from the bottom. We didn't get to the pass - It was about 2:00pm when we got up to the small lake at the top of the headwall, and general concenus was to head back. Will be back again and get to the pass.
The trip back down was pretty fast of course. There were only a few spots where you had to get off due to obstructions.
When we got back to the river crossing and were ready to cross, an outfitters wagon arrived at the same time. They offered us a ride across the river. We all thought that would be fun. Well - a flat deck on the trailer, so we were sitting down trying to hold on the the bikes as we got jostled around crossing the river. An experience for sure, but there is no suspension on those wagons. A very bumpy ride! Think I will walk across next time.
The weather was great all day! Not too hot for most of the trip up and clear blue skies. It was a great day in the mountains.
