Group #1 Moraine Lake to Sentinel Pass: We made good time to the lake and up to the pass where we enjoyed lunch with outstanding views. We had a chuckle at the sight of a hiker at the top with his ipad unfolded and taking pictures; could the compact digital camera be a thing of the past? Probably not. The hike down the 500 meters to Paradise Valley was marked with cairns and thanks to the good eye of Kirsten, we descended following switchbacks for the most part. Minor snow made the footing a little challenging on occasion. The Giant Steps were an enjoyable addition to day, where at least 1/2 of us enjoyed a bare foot walk in the mountain fountain. In fact one even dared to sit down and go for a slide! It looked very refreshing. Definitely a social group with plenty of conversation about world travel, food, and food while world traveling. Debbie Group #2 - Paradise Valley to Sentinel Pass: Our group set a brisk pace on this cool (start of Autumn) day. We caught our breath at Lake Annette before pushing on to the Sentinel Pass junction. The clear blue sky was a great offset to the mountains (some with a skiff of snow). Our journey up the pass was uneventful until we met the other group on their way down. After exchanging keys and a few stories we parted ways - our challenge began shortly after that. The cairns visible coming down are mostly invisible going up. The rockfall beneath the pass was especially tricky with loose rock at almost every step. After a extended time the group all safely reached the top. After our very delayed lunch we proceeded down through Larch valley and on to Moraine lake. I would recommend this route only be completed by very strong hikers with some scrambling skills. Potential use of helmets as a safety precaution might be advisable. Leonard
