What a fabulous day skiing! It had snowed 40cm+ at the Chester Lake trailhead over the last few days and we had absolute perfect conditions - LOTS (lots!) of snow, a few previous tracks so that the trail was broken, and no slush or ice whatsoever. It could have been the middle of January with this amount of snow. Our skins served us well for the uphill, and a fair bit of time was spent taking photos around the meadows. We had a leisurely lunch at the lake where we were joined by some begging whiskey jacks and also a few other groups enjoying the sun. While some others had already skied across the like, the sides weren't fully frozen yet. After lunch we made our way up to the Elephant Rocks. Again, LOTS of snow to plow through, but the trees were incredibly pretty. The rocks were another highlight and a lone ski track on them lured us up top. Some of the rocks had more snow on top of them than they are high. Not long after another group joined us at the top, and then another. On our return half the group braved some downhills without skins, making for some fast speeds as trees whizzed by. One talented skier made it all the way down, finishing with a big splash into the parking lot. Thank you to a fabulous group for making this a wonderful ski tour.
