It looked more like the middle of January out there than spring but that didn’t stop a very dedicated bunch of COC’ers from making their way to the Subway Soccer Centre tonight to compete in the 114th edition of COC Indoor Soccer!
Gold jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but Blue roared back in the latter part of the period with 4 unanswered goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the break. In the middle frame and down a man, Gold acquired one of Blue’s players to help even the playing field. As a result, Gold narrowed the gap to just 1 by the second intermission setting up what would turn out to be a thrilling final period. The two teams kept pace with each other the rest of the way and with less than a minute to go, Gold tied the match at 7. With just seconds remaining you would think the story would end here, but believe it or not, moments later Chris scored his 5th of the night to give Blue a narrow 8-7 victory. Interestingly enough it was Gold who defeated Blue by that exact score in our last outing.
Tonight's "Player of the Game" award was presented immediately following the match to Miguel Martinez Ceja, who put in a solid effort for both squads and played a key role in Gold’s second period come back with a goal and an assist. Miguel joined the club late last year and has enjoyed participating in mainly volleyball and soccer events thus far. He is a very friendly individual, great team player and consistently demonstrates a high level of sportsmanship. It has been a pleasure getting to know Miguel over the past several months and I look forward to sharing many more events with him in the future. Congratulations Miguel on your well deserved award tonight.
After the game, we hit the Soccer Centre Pub for some well earned refreshments. Thanks to all who joined me, it was a really fun evening!
