Our hike to Twin Lakes was full of surprisingly sweet treats!
Taking note of the mountain surroundings on the drive out, the consensus was to leave our snowshoes in the vehicles at the trailhead. That was a wise choice as there was hardly any snow to speak off. That was the sweet treat to start our day. The next sweet treat was arriving at Lower Twin Lake to see it not snow covered nor iced over. The sun was out, it was warm there was no wind, now how sweet is that? That was certainly a treat and we took advantage of it by spending loads of time by the Lower Lake for our lunch break. After lunch we aimed for Upper Twin Lake. We arrived there in no time and here again was our next sweet treat. We had a wonderful view of the lightly iced over Upper Lake at the base of Storm Mountain. The ground cover still had autumn shades, the birds were singing and a couple of butterflies fluttered by.
We made good time covering the kilometers with no snow to slow us down. We checked out further along both Lakes. On our return trip we took a short shortcut and then hiked back beside the creek for a while before heading back into the forest. We wise to bring our microspikes along as they were definitely needed especially along the forest trail.
The icing on the cake today was even sweeter treats. Thank you to Darlene for sharing her rum balls and chocolate bars and thank you to Mary for sharing her home made loaf.
It was a pleasure to be out in the mountains today and to be there with all of you. Thank you Darlene and Mary for driving today.
