Season 6 Week 29
Our final Tuesday of the season saw a nice sized crowd of 28 enthusiastic COC’ers gather together at St Stephen Junior High School one last time to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Individuals then gathered together with their fellow teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs and for the first time ever multiple tie breakers were needed to sort out the standings. Golden Eye and There Will Be Blood shared identical head to head and 7-3 records meaning an additional game would be needed to determine who would be awarded first place. When the dust settled, Golden Eye emerged victorious. Meanwhile, the exact same situation occurred between Blugle Moogle and the Pin Heads who each finished at 3-7 but it was Blugle Moogle who grabbed 3rd spot after a thrilling tie breaker victory.
In the semi-finals, both series ended quickly as the Pin Heads upset Golden Eye in 2 straight games to advance to the gold while Blugle Moogle fell 2-0 to There Will Be Blood.
In the medal round, the sweeps continued as Golden Eye salvaged a bronze after handing Blugle Moogle their 3rd and 4th consecutive losses of the playoffs while There Will Be Blood captured the gold with a perfect 4-0 playoff run after eliminating the Pin Heads in two straight games. Congratulations There Will Be Blood on your well deserved Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
