The hike to the Picklejar Lakes was a great hike today. I was happy to finally have done this hike. The skies were blue as we left the car pool location and drove into the mountains with the looks of a great weather day in the mountains. The trail is easy to find, a brief bit of hwy walking from Lantern day use area and the trail is easily found on the north bank of Lantern Creek. Excellent trail all the way. We took our time as this was a slower paced hike and stopped to take in the increasing scenery of green valleys and rocky mountain tops. There was a stiff ascent up to a pass which I think had everyone breathing a bit more. We hiked all the way to the 4th lake where we settled on a nice spot for lunch. Here we enjoyed a 40 min lunch break soaking up the beautiful vistas of the 4th lake and the impressive mountains forming a beautiful cirque. We enjoyed our hike out and shared the trail with at least 30-40 other people throughout the day. As promised, the there was cloud build up and mid afternoon we saw dark clouds and heard impressive thunder. It did rain on us for about 15 min on our descent and rained quite heavily on our drive out. It was a great day out. I enjoyed meeting 7 new people today. Thanks everyone for coming today. Jeff
