With the sudden return of winter, we really weren't sure what to expect as we headed out to Banff this morning. The skies were grey, a light drizzle here, odd flurry there, slush and ice on the roads, a vehicle or two in the ditch and a carpool driver who really wasn't sure where Banff was, all combined for an exciting start to the day. When we did eventually arrive at Sulphur Mountain the sun was beginning to break through and by the time we neared the top there was plenty of Sunny D to go around! The weekend's fresh snowfall not only made for absolutely breathtaking scenery, it covered the icy trail as well, making icers almost unnecessary. It took us a little over 2 hours to complete the hike before celebrating Ken's birthday and enjoying lunch together in the nearly deserted mountain top café. Afterwards we took advantage of the free gondola ride down, grabbed our suits and enjoyed a nice long soothing soak before heading back to Calgary.
