Write Up:Who needs hiking boots? We had attempted a 21km loop, which even by the hiking
books and experienced guides was described as 'horrible'. Nonetheless, the group was
up for an explorer adventure and we set out the more difficult side first, just in case we
didn't have time to complete the loop. We did a couple of creek crossings in the first few
metres with our boots on, but as I knew we'd have a few kilometres of this, we switched
into water crossing footwear instead. There is no trail, but on a hot day this would be a
pleasant walk in 11km of water. After 30-some very frigid crossings it got to the point
where little feeling was left in our feet, so, not wanting to chance hypothermia, we turned
around. 76 crossings in total (a new record) and finished with wrinkly (and clean) feet.
Great day out and great ankle training for Nootka Island next month, but as we were
done by 5pm (so early!) we went to Woody's. That ended up being a good choice, as
rain and nasty weather approached shortly after in Kananaskis. Thanks everyone for
another great day out in the mountains!
