Write Up:
Sandra, Cathrine, Megan, and I all had a fantastic weekend at Lake O’Hara! We had three consecutive days of glorious weather.

On Friday Cathrine and I made it to Abbot Hut. We had tea and chatted with veteran mountaineers who were guiding a group up Mt Victoria on Saturday. I felt like I was six and in a candy store! Sandra and Megan made most of the way up towards the hut but turned around and decided to enjoy more time down at Lake Oesa.

Day two we did a leisurely hike around the lakes through the Yukness Alpine Circuit. We had lunch at Opabin Lake and enjoyed watching someone make his way down the glacier in the distance. We took lots of photos, some of which will be shared here. Back at EP Hut in the evening we befriended a Swiss family who moved to Canada. They shared “mountain tea” with us and joined in the revelries with the hut’s guitar. Sandra sang La Bamba and we did our best to chime in for the chorus!

Day three we enjoyed the incredible scenery hiking up to Lake McArthur. We took the higher trail going there and then came back down through the valley. After tea at EP Hut we relaxed by Lake O’Hara shore while we waited for the bus back.

I want thank all my companions on this trip. I am especially grateful to Cathrine for teaching me how to boot-slide down on scree in a controlled fashion! Otherwise, it would have taken much longer to come down from Abbot Hut!

This was my first time organizing an overnight event. I’m really glad that everyone was safe and had a good time!
