Thu, Aug 13 2015 - Headwall Lakes - Relaxed Pace (View Original Event Details)
|
With temperatures rising well above 30 today, it only seemed logical to head out to the mountains for a refreshing swim in one of the many ice cold lakes Kananaskis has to offer.
As usual the majority of those in the parking area were headed over to Chester Lake while the unsigned Headwall Lakes trail remained nice and quiet. A little more strenuous and a few kilometers longer, the Headwall Lakes trail did not disappoint. A great mix of forest, open spaces, waterfalls and 2 beautiful lakes made for a very scenic experience. We took about 3 hours (at a very relaxed pace) to reach the upper lake where we spent a good 75+ minutes relaxing, taking photos, enjoying lunch and partaking in a refreshing polar bear dip! Man was that refreshing!! lol
As we made our way back, we again found ourselves dragging our feet, stopping regularly to absorb the absolutely gorgeous views along the way. By the time we reached the trailhead, 7.5 hours had gone by. Many thanks to an awesome group of COC'ers for joining me today - it was amazing!
See you next time,
Sunny D
