Write Up:The morning started out overcast - but hopes were high! 7 of us started out for Sunshine, to be later joined with one more member! There was hardly anyone out there as we arrived on the slopes. The first person I ran in to, was Karl, right in the parking lot, and then again on The Divide.
The first run of the morning was not that great as it was hard to see, the snow was slushy/crusty for the most part. But, after that, the sun started to poke through and conditions improved quickly. Layers of clothing had to come off, and interesting characters started to emerge - Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum for one, and the tie-dyed long john man for another. And Hardcore Ben caught up to us and stayed for a while, before he headed off to attack more slopes.
I stopped early for lunch to hunt down first aid material, ran in to Ken, and found a new lunch spot as there were racers competing that day, and BBQ's and music filling up the air by the Standish Lodge. The sun was out, and Shawna and I were the first to get the BBQ booth to open up!
We all headed for Mt. Standish and the Wawa chair afterwards, and Shawna had a good eye for the tree trails - With the conditions of the snow that day, it made it easy to manuver through the trees, to spot the small groups hidden amongst them having picnic's. It was Andrew's first time on Mt. Standish and the Wawa, as well as going through the trees. Good job Andrew!
I headed to the concert area after I was done skiing, as everyone else headed off for Goat's Eye. I was soon joined by Brian, and then later Ken, and slowly, slowly, everyone else started to trickle in! Some strangers sitting next to us, told us about the Oilers win and some guy who attacked a Caution Sign on Goat's Eye - it seems he grabbed the sign and together, they flew down the slopes. Caution! Joe.
The eight of us managed to ski together through out the day - and when small groups did trail off, we were all by the same chair lift anyway. It was great! But the event soon continued in Calgary as we headed for the Kilkenny. Since I was the first one there, I managed to get a table for 6 of us in the center of the Red "Mile." We weren't going to leave until the end of the Flames game! So the event that started at 6:45am, didn't end until 10:45pm. It was great to watch all the folks who had come out to watch the game, and fantastic to see the Flames slaughter the Ducks!
Go Flames Go!!
Thanks to everyone who came out so early, it was a great day of skiing, the company was awesome! See you next time!
