Season 8 Week 1
After a 7 month absence, dodge ball finally made its return to the COC calendar tonight as 36 enthusiastic participants gathered together at Vincent Massey School to once again compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck then gathered together with their fellow teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.
Each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Dodge Duckin' Dodge Ball Demons played like a team possessed, losing just once in the round robin while earning an impressive 8-1-1 record! Meanwhile the battle for second was a fierce one as all 3 remaining teams finished neck and neck. The Green Hornets and Blue Cheese each shared identical 4-6 records with the 2nd place tie breaker going to the Green Hornets while Yellow Snow followed right behind at 3-6-1.
In the semi-finals, both series required exciting tie breakers to determine the winner. After losing their opener against 4th place Yellow Snow, top seeded Dodge Duckin' Dodge Ball Demons roared back to take the series 2-1. Meanwhile in other action, Blue Cheese outlasted the Green Hornets to claim their spot in the championship final.
In the medal round, tie breakers were once again needed to settle the score between these well balanced teams. The Green Hornets recovered from their semi-final loss to earn a bronze with a victory over Yellow Snow while top ranked Dodge Duckin' Dodge Ball Demons captured the first gold medal of the season with a win over Blue Cheese. Congratulations Dodge Duckin' Dodge Ball Demons Blue Spirit on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
