Season 8 Week 3
A perfect sized group of 32 enthusiastic COC’ers gathered together at Vincent Massey School this evening to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Individuals then gathered together with their fellow teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 22 round robin match ups.
Each team played 11 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. Californication and Blue Bruisers finished with identical 7-4 records but top spot was awarded to the Bruisers due to their winning record against Californication. Greasy Grimy Green Gopher Guts grabbed 3rd spot with a 5-6 result while fourth place went to the Spazic Monkeys who managed 3 wins in 11 tries.
In the semi-finals, Greasy Grimy Green Gopher Guts stunned Californication defeating them in 2 straight games to advance to the gold while top ranked Blue Bruisers needed a tie breaker match to get past a pesky Spazic Monkeys squad.
In the medal round, both series required exciting tie breakers to determine the winner. Californication recovered from their first round disappointment to salvage a bronze against Spazic Monkeys while Greasy Grimy Green Gopher Guts completed their impressive playoff run with yet another upset, this time over top seeded Blue Bruisers to capture the gold! Congratulations Greasy Grimy Green Gopher Guts on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
Season 8 is already shaping up to be a very exciting one as 6 players are now tied for top spot in the individual standings!
