Although it turned out I had falsely advertised this run as not having any elevation gain (I had got my upstreams & downstreams confused and we in fact climbed 35m), I think the group forgave me. Weather and temperature were perfect, with a light breeze to keep us from overheating. The route abounded in wildlife: We had a small herd of cattle that insisted on jogging along with us for a km. Also lots of ducks, hawks, herons, a moose and calf, and even a yak. No we weren't hallucinating; they were filming a movie at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park and had brought a yak along for the occasion!
So if you want a chance of seeing a yak, koala, panda, or penguin, be sure to come out for the next run on Thursday!
