Eight of us gathered for a beginner-friendly X-country ski event in the village of Redwood Meadows. From the parking lot at the community centre, we walked 100 m across the sports fields and past the ice-rink (where there were toilets) to the trail. The trail followed a groomed track on flat terrain for 1.5 km south, crossed Redwood Meadows Drive, then carried on for another 2.5 km in a loop skirting the gold course that brought us back to Redwood Meadows Drive, and a return north along the trail to the sports field. Some went for another 1 km out and back north from here. Weather was great, witha much sun and temperatures just above zero. A week of above-zero weather had made the trails a little icy in sections, but this wasn't much of an issue, given the flatness of the terrain. This is a great spot for beginner skiers: no hills, easy to navigate, numerous places to bail and walk back to the car park.
