Write Up:A wonderful day and a terrific hike! After a little bit of searching for the trail we all set out on a trail with excellent conditions: Just a little bit of fresh snow, good traction underfoot and Lila's excellent pecan cashew maple syrup trail mix. Delicious! Under the guidance of Craig and Juanita (with lots of help from their fellow hikers :) ) we headed up the trail. Anja took a multitude of photographs, there were a lot of pretty sights with the bright sunshine.
The uphill was gradual and in no time we were at the top. What a pleasant surprise to see a picnic table up there! After a brief exploration of the old fire lookout by Bob and Craig (boys will be boys) we got down to the real priority of eating our lunches. There was sure a lot of chocolate being passed around by generous fellow hikers. After lunch, and at Laura's opportune insistence, we all headed a little ways through the trees for the most incredible view of the day. What a spectacular panorama!
The hike down was fast with Lila setting a very fast pace and as we had time we all decided to go to Troll Falls. The Falls was still in the magical state of running water and lots of ice. What a beautiful view. The ice had a bluish tinge to it in some areas and had formed into some interesting shapes. We went up underneath a rock overhang and saw a virtual garden of stalactites (or is it stalagmites) that had formed from water dripping off of the ceiling of rock. The group agreed that seeing the Falls first in future hikes at this time of the year would be a good idea so as to catch the morning sunshine on the waterfall. In the afternoon the sun was on the other side and may have made the view even more spectacular.
Welcome Lila to the world of the moderates, and thanks to everyone for being such an excellent group of people to hike with. We all had so much fun together.
