A spectacular day, and... drumroll please... NO BUGS!!! Yay!

Eleven of us set out from Calgary in two vehicles (we LIIIIIKE Ryan's new van!). We met up with the Lethbridge Faction (Shannon, Lydia and Cheryl) at Takkakaw Falls where we walked in to bask in the spectacular views and spray of the water (you gotta love those switchbacks on the road up… wow!).

Continuing on to Emerald Lake, we set off on the lakeshore and then up and in to Emerald Basin. This hike is listed as a ‘less popular’ one with nothing really ‘special’ about it, but I think it has been given a bum rap – it’s really a great little hike through a magical green mossy forest and then into the great little basin with a very nice little stream running through it. Several folks took the opportunity to dip feet (and other body parts) into the cool water, and lounge around on the rocks, while others continued deeper into the basin and up part of the far slope.

Returning the way we came in, the Lethbridgers bugged out early to hit the Calgary Folk Fest. Roger, Claudia and Rhonda chose some quiet time on the lakeshore, while the rest went for a paddle around the lake in the canoes.

Heading out, Ryan’s group of seven (including himself… boy, do we like that new van!) bypassed the natural bridge in favor of snacks in Lake Louise while Suzanne’s group of four stopped to check out the natural bridge (I think we got the better end of that deal).
