Sat, Sep 25 2004 - Burstall Pass (View Original Event Details)
|
It was NOT a dark and stormy day as 11 of us headed out of the city for Burstall Pass. In fact, better hiking weather than we had would be pretty hard to come by. And so under bright blue skies we made our way from the trailhead past Mud Lake and the Burstall Lakes (sorry Cheryl – that lake you asked about wasn’t Mud Lake, it was Burstall Lake - oh, and while I’m at it, Ralph, it was Robertson Glacier, not Richardson) to the flat gravelly area that was surprisingly dry making the extra shoes that nobody actually brought unnecessary.
From there, the uphill part of the adventure started. It wasn’t long before the hearty COC crew passed another hiking group and others making their way up to the pass. In just over two hours we made it from the trailhead to the pass where we broke for lunch taking in views of the mountains that surrounded us and the valley below where the larch trees were putting on their beautiful fall show for us.
From the pass, it was a steady march back to the cars and a sleepy ride home for some. Not to disappoint Ellen who complained of not seeing any animals, a herd of 25 or so big horn sheep caused something of a sheep-jam as we turned back onto Highway 40.
Of course, what hike would be complete without a trip to the clubhouse aka the Kilkenny for post hike nourishment and conversation about … hmm, well about a lot of err ... um … biology, fashion and Jodie Foster.

Comments heard at the Kilkenny after the hike....
- Men should wear skirts.
- Did you know that cats have barbed penises?
- There is an actual biological reason why women should have an orgasm.
- The size of the male's balls in various species determines if that species should be monogamous or not.
- Judging by the size of human males balls, they should not have to be monogamous.
- Women, including those on the hike today, have an extra layer of fat.
- Men can stink and they won't notice, but women will notice because they smell better.
Aren't you sad you missed it?
