The weather predicted cool temps and a few scattered showers, and that's what we got. Saturday's guided hike plan got amended due to slippery conditions out on the trails (bentonite becomes extremely slippery when wet), and three of us decided to go along with the change of plans. Glad we did! Jayne was an excellent interpretive guide and we had an interesting time learning about the history of this area. Saturday evening brought the usual supper and evening preparations, along with a quick scramble (figuratively speaking only) up to view the sunset, followed by campfire and conversation. Welcome to new member Kathleen!

Sunday, three of us set off on another guided hike to a fossil bed. Wow - That was interesting too and it's amazing what we can recognize now that we know what to look for. Cynthia spotted two fossilized teeth and a vertibrae, and the rest of us found many and varied pieces of bone, claws, turtle shells, etc. The hike included a cool bus ride through a part of the badlands not accessible without a guide - an extremely interesting and unusual part of the park! We're looking at the badlands trails with an entirely new perspective now. I highly recommend both guided hikes - well done once again Jayne (our guide)!

Lessons learned:
* Not so positive - the taps are shut off to the campground now and we had to travel a bit of distance up to the concession for water - a drag - and we felt the campground cost was excessive considering.
* Positive: we discovered a whole new part of the park that is open to free exploration, so I can hardly wait to get back there again to check it out. A great place for explorers and photographers of all sorts.
