Under a warm but cloudy sky the bikers and the skaters began their trips with the goal of meeting up for lunch for a Chestermere Lake picnic. With opposite start points, the bikers left the quaint town of Chestermere for a round trip that would take them away from the lake's activity, alongside the irrigation canal system that feeds the lake and finally into the more industrial area of Calgary. The skaters took the same path but left on a one-way route towards Chestermere. With flat terrain both teams made good time, and the dry surroundings provided us with an interesting contrast to the usual forested destinations we often travel to.

Despite the staggered start times, and double the distance travelled, the bikers still managed to outpace the skaters and arrive at the picnic site with plenty of time to spare. After 18 km on rollerblades the skaters didn't seem to mind at all.
