Wed, Jul 4 2007 - Evening Trail Run - Powderface Ridge (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great turn-out on a hot day. It took us a while to figure out the car pool and vehicle shuttle, but the runs went off without a hitch. 9 took the shorter route while 4 took the longer route. Despite the fact that the two runs started about 15 km apart by road, we all arrived at the end point at about the same time.
The longer route began with a deceptively gentle climb, but as time went on it relentlessly got steeper and steeper. We passed a group of mountain bikers en route. Once on Powderface Ridge we were over 650m above our starting point! The views were superb (see photos). All too soon the trail left the top of the ridge and descended into the trees on the east side. But we got more great views at the south end of the ridge and from a few clearings during the descent to the road. Special thanks to Ryan who brought a cooler of soft drinks and beer for after the run!
We got back into town about 10pm and half of us stopped by the Seanachie for beer, wings, and other snacks. See you all next week!
Stats for Longer Route: 12.9km, 720m cumulative elevation gain. Total Time/Speed 1:58, 6.6 km/hr. Moving Time/Speed approx 1:45, 7.4 km/hr.
