We arrived at Moraine Lake and were ready to start hiking a bit later than anticipated - close to 10:45 am when we hit the trail. It was cloudy and there was a slight drizzle but most of us were optimistic that the sky would clear. The hike up to the junction with Larch Valley was steady and we had a good workout on our way up. From the junction, we headed toward Eiffel Lake – and the trail was excellent. You walk close to the edge and, with the exception of the fact that the clouds obscured the tops of the peaks, you had an excellent view of the valley and Moraine Lake. Just as you reach Eiffel Lake, there is a large area of rockslide, so sturdy boots are recommended. Just past Eiffel Lake, we found a good spot for lunch. Unfortunately, the rain that had been a drizzle became more of a full blown shower, so our lunch stop was very short. We made good time back to the parking lot but the rain never let up. Total hiking time was 4 hours, including a 15 minute lunch stop. Given the inclement weather, the group seemed to enjoy the outing and I would like to thank everyone for being such good sports on the hike. You were all super on the trail. Six of us ended up at the Lake Louise Hostel for beer or coffee.
