With 6 degree Celsius and a thick overcast the hikers met for carpool and then headed out for their destination just outside of Bragg Creek. Just before leaving, our Safety guy, just made it in time; he said that he was out checking the trail for us and that was why he was late however we all know that he slept in.

Once suited up and ready to get hiking, final head count was taken and then we were off. We walked along the creek bed which led us toward the trail through a Provincial Park Campground, where there was one brave soul camping (not a COC member) and stopped to observe bear tracks (that made a few nervous), yet marched on. The hike continued up the creek bed (we were without paddles) with Rocky, Stephanie's dog, leading the way. The group was hiking along nicely with spectacular mountain views, chatting about various topics, when the trail just ended-- a few went ahead to scout the area and realized we should hike further around the gorge- some found the path and other tipped toed through the bushes (myself included). We stopped for lunch and ate with the other COC group who left earlier and chatted with them until they continued on with their hike. After lunch, we headed up a small canyon that has been sculpted by years of spring run off. The canyon has logs, placed naturally or by humans, that aided the hikers up through it bringing us close to the rock and seeing crevasses to which one could take a nap(yet no napping was an option). Once at the end of the canyon we all gathered to listen to Elissa explain theories on how the rocks were formed by the water (she's a geologist). We hiked a little further and then voted aimlessly to head back, again with Rocky leading the way. Our descent was met by a brisk wind and great conversation; I think Oprah's name came up and it wasn't us girls talking about her if you know what I mean, SIRS............! Walked back along the trail, stopping again to observe the bear tracks and headed for the cars with some of us taking bathroom breaks.

In our vehicle, there was striking conversation about the recent increase in our road funding and the way Michelle S. was chatting about it you thought she assisted in the planning of the infrastructure projects. Oh yes, thanks to Ralph for not snoring as he napped in our smooth driving mini-van and once we convened at Kilkenny the same stories could be heard of other car-poolers doing the same (napping and not snoring). After a great hike and great food at the end of the day, it was a fun filled day. Thanks to Rhonda for leading the way and for Steve having the map.
