Five of us decided that we would take a chance and do Eiffel Lake and Larch Valley - and what a terrific decision. We were on the trail just before 11 am, and although it was snow covered, we made fairly good time to the junction of Eiffel Lake and Larch Valley. There we met a couple from Germany and three from Lloydminster. Together we carried on to Eiffel Lake. Although perhaps not at their peak, the larches were beautiful - set against the evergreens and the snow covered mountains. The scenery was breathtaking, and we got terrific views of Moraine Lake. After a quick lunch, we decided to take the side trip to Larch Valley. When we arrived there, the sun was shining brilliantly - it was spectacular - and the larches again were brilliant orange / gold. By now, we had blue skies, with the sun highlighting the snow covered peaks. Upon our return to Moraine Lake, the sun continued to shine, showing the lake in all its glory. For those who were new to Calgary, we made a stop at Lake Louise - which as always, was impressive. We were back to Calgary by 7 pm, with everyone agreeing that it had been a great outing. We covered about 14 kms. P.S. I tried the icers from Lee Valley, and would highly recommend them.
