My heart sank when I pulled into the parking lot tonight and saw that they had taken the nets down - oops! Note to self... next year, make sure to bring a rope so we can make our own if need-be. Laura and I showed up right at 5:00 and amused ourselves playing badminton for a little while until some more folks showed up. Sandra Lea volunteered to run home in search of rope, and as more people joined us, we began playing with our 'imaginary net'. We played like that for about an hour, and then Merv and Sandra Lea fashioned us a net using their ropes, although we never did agree on whether the game was better with an 'imaginary' net or a real one.
We played boys against girls all evening, with Brian (aka Doctor Death) standing in as a surrogate girl when that side was short a player. We started off waxing their butts (figuratively speaking) but it didn't take them long to catch their groove and overtake us. Despite a few offers of mixing up the players, we persevered, and enjoyed a few good point-runs throughout the evening.
With frozen feet, bruised arms and a satisfied grin, I bid the group adieu at about 7:30 to finish out their battle without me. No matter what Mehran says, the girls ROCKED (selective memory is a wonderful thing...).
