It all started on a fluffy white beautiful day where the group of eight meet in the Brentwood carpool and could not wait to get travelling into this beautiful winter wonder world. At the Upper Interlake car area we came across three other persons that were going to try to winter camp too where they headed out before us. Thank goodness for Ben’s pre-visit (came to try the lake the week prior) we got to our designation in no time by going across the lake in the whiteness. At times I felt like I was in the arctic and yes it was quite a sight to see (see pics). During the trip across, I did though keep an eye open for the threesome and we’re glad to see them once we were at the campsite.
At the campsite, the setting up tent and making the shelter (great job Alejandro and Chris) was the main objectives as well as finding the food lockers, bathroom and the pile of wood (we found an axe too…yupee). By 4ish we were coming along pretty good and the newee’s Josh, Anjalic and Trevor borrowed Ben’s pluk (I hope I have that right) to get the wood. The fire by no time was a blazing and then sizzled to a little one (wood and snow do not mix) where the great ones including Ben and Trevor stepped in to save the evening. We huddled close to the fire and enjoyed some evening chit chat. About 10ish the enders retired and I said a special thanks to the moon with its brightest helping me to my tent. I huddled into my sleeping bag but wish I was near the fire since throughout the evening there was something that was cold. The next day I found out that others felt the same but all seemed to be in good spirits even with the all but one stove not working in the a.m. We found out from Ben that it was -22 degrees. This was after having discussion of what was the temperature. I thought it was about -5 but then I was standing near the fire making water from snow. We did get down the food and drinks with using Josh’s stove (Thanks Josh:>)) as well yes the fire too that was started by Diane (thanks to you too:>). About 1ish all we’re gone from the campsite. We ventured across the lake in blue skies but man that wind was cold. Therefore I was thankful for my scarf but did feel I should have got out my mittens. I mentioned this to Chris who was kind enough to give me Hot Pads. Thanks Chris:>). At the carpool we decided that we deserved a drink from the gas station (ummm…yes non-alcohol) as well as some food so we went to Woody’s in K-Village. One word comes to mind and that is…YUMMY…
We did discuss the event at Woody’s as well as shared our pictures. Found out this is the first for the COC. Yuppeed you cool COCer's.
The next trip has been decided and I can’t wait but I will have some additions including more water and bevy too. As well of course a different stove.
Hope to see you there and thanks for all for the sharing. This trip would not have gone the way it did without all of you. I as well learned lots and hoped you did too.
See below for some special cheers and wish you go well’s:
- Trevor for his first every winter camping, backpacking and snowshoeing trip. Good going Trevor:>) and yes look forward to your trailer at the next one.
- Enjoy your trip Josh and Anjalic. Really do hope it goes well in Africa.
- Thanks again Ben for all your outside work as well as your added equipment and yes agreeing to do this with me.
